Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 oz silver tequila
- 1 oz orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 tbsp simple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Sugar, for rimming the glass
- Ice
How to do it
- Cook the cranberries: In a pan over medium heat, cook the cranberries with sugar, stirring occasionally until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled, strain out the solids to get a smooth cranberry syrup.
- Prepare the glass: Pour some sugar onto a plate. Wet the rim of your glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rim into the sugar to coat it.
- Mix the margarita: In a shaker, combine 2 oz of cranberry syrup, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup (if using). Add ice to the shaker, then shake well for about 15-20 seconds.
- Serve: Strain the margarita into your prepared glass filled with ice.
- Garnish and enjoy: Optional: garnish with a few whole cranberries or a lime wedge for a festive touch.
Notes
- You can make the cranberry syrup ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week.
- For a frosty margarita, blend the ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
- Add more or less simple syrup based on how sweet you like your drinks.
