Holiday Dinner

Winter Margarita

Perfectly tart with a touch of sweetness — this margarita is the ideal drink for chilly evenings and holiday gatherings.

This Winter Margarita is a seasonal twist on the classic margarita. The cranberries add a tart, festive flavor that pairs perfectly with the tequila, making it a great cocktail for cozy nights or holiday parties. Here's how to make it:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • Sugar, for rimming the glass
  • Ice

How to do it

  1. Cook the cranberries: In a pan over medium heat, cook the cranberries with sugar, stirring occasionally until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled, strain out the solids to get a smooth cranberry syrup.

  2. Prepare the glass: Pour some sugar onto a plate. Wet the rim of your glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rim into the sugar to coat it.

  3. Mix the margarita: In a shaker, combine 2 oz of cranberry syrup, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup (if using). Add ice to the shaker, then shake well for about 15-20 seconds.

  4. Serve: Strain the margarita into your prepared glass filled with ice.

  5. Garnish and enjoy: Optional: garnish with a few whole cranberries or a lime wedge for a festive touch.

Notes

  • You can make the cranberry syrup ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week.

  • For a frosty margarita, blend the ingredients with ice instead of shaking.

  • Add more or less simple syrup based on how sweet you like your drinks.
